Market position

How much of the market are you actually taking?

Performance reporting tells you how well your traffic did. It cannot tell you how much you never saw. Market share is the missing denominator.

A great month can still be a shrinking share

Clicks up eleven per cent reads like a win. If the market grew twenty per cent, it is a loss with a nice colour on the chart. Nothing in Ads, GA4 or Search Console will tell you which of those happened.

The usual answer is a third-party SEO platform at several hundred a month, largely for one number you could derive from data you already have access to.

Position Eleven builds it in three tiers, each needing one more source than the last — and the middle tier uses Google’s own keyword volumes through the Ads connection you already authorise.

How it works

1

Tier 1 — capture rate

Search Console alone, so everyone gets it. Of the clicks your current impressions could yield at position one, how many are you actually getting? Headroom against demand you are already shown for.

2

Tier 2 — share of search

Adds Google Ads keyword volumes. Your impressions against the whole market’s searches for the terms you track. No third-party subscription.

3

Tier 3 — share of voice

Adds competitor positions from a SERP source. Position-weighted, so a rival at #1 does not count the same as one at #9.

What you actually get

Ranked by the money at stake, not by how alarming the number looks. This is the output, not a mock-up of one.

Example findings

high
No visibility on “desk chair for back pain” — 19,539 searches in the window
The market searches for this and you do not appear at all. Net-new demand rather than an optimisation.
high
12.2% share of “office chairs” — 80,230 searches, you see 9,800
You rank, but Google shows you on a fraction of the searches. Usually a relevance or authority gap rather than a technical one.
medium
Capturing 5% of what “office chair buying guide” could give you
Position 12.4 on 7,300 impressions. Improving rank on demand you are already shown for is cheaper than finding new demand.

The detail that matters

The tier is a consequence, not a setting

Position Eleven uses whatever data it can reach and reports the tier it got to. No Ads account means Tier 1 — a real, useful report — rather than an error message.

Every figure carries its denominator

A Tier 1 capture rate is not market share, and the report says so in the same breath as the number. A share figure with no stated basis is decoration.

Locale-bound volumes

Volume is meaningless without a market. Each client is bound to a geo and language, so a UK term is never answered with US numbers.

Trend, not a single reading

Snapshots are stored per period. One market-share reading tells you almost nothing; the direction over six months tells you most of what you need.

What this doesn’t do

Tier 3 needs a paid SERP data source and is off unless you connect one — competitor rankings cannot be derived from Search Console or the Ads API, and we would rather show nothing than invent a number. Keyword Planner volumes are also rounded into buckets by Google, so Tier 2 figures are indicative rather than exact. The report says so on every run.

Reasonable questions

Do I need an SEO tool subscription?

Not for Tiers 1 and 2. Tier 1 uses Search Console; Tier 2 adds Google’s own keyword volumes through the Ads API connection you already have. Only Tier 3 needs a third party.

How are the keywords chosen?

You can set the tracked list per client. If you do not, Position Eleven derives one from your highest-demand Search Console queries, so a report works with no setup.

Can I compare tiers over time?

Only within a tier. A capture rate and a share of search have different denominators, so Position Eleven refuses to difference one against the other rather than producing a trend line that looks real and isn’t.
